What's included in the Eye10 Industry Checker tool?

Industry Checker features

Your main competitors

Do you know which are the top websites related to your niche and directly competing for your website traffic?

Eye10 will display the top 5 websites and give information such as each website's DR (Domain Rating). You’ll also be able to see the amount of traffic the keywords are pulling in for that website.

Without knowing who your main competitors are in terms of your URL, location, and target keywords, it’s difficult to make meaningful changes to your SEO strategy. Eye10’s Industry Checker will give you all the facts you need based on real data.

By replacing the guessing game with reliable information, you’ll have a much clearer idea of how to target the types of keywords you currently aren’t ranking high enough for on search engines.

Keywords gap

See all the keywords that are improving rankings for your competitors, which your website currently doesn’t include within its content.

As with all of our features, you can download the results as CSV (spreadsheet), making it easier than ever to implement these keywords into your content.

We’d also suggest researching these keywords in further detail, such as related questions your users may have about that keyword. The more you hone in on these keywords and look to provide a helpful result for search engine users, the better.

Keywords similarities

Keyword similarities are your personal mind mapping tool, helping you expand on your initial keywords to instantly improve your SEO strategy.

Eye10 makes it easy to toggle between your Industry Checker competitors so you can see similar keywords for each competitor. The results allow you to gain a broad understanding of the keywords you need to be using within your content.

Your current ranking

See a list of the keywords you entered at the start and where your URL ranks for these keywords. Eye10 will also display the search volume for each of these keywords.

Suppose your website isn’t ranking in the top 100. In that case, you’ll see a message stating ‘Not found in top 100’. Look out for any such result where the search volume for that keyword is high, as this means you are missing out on a lot of web traffic because your website isn’t currently optimized correctly for these keywords.

For lower search volumes, it’s still worth trying to rank high because these keywords are known as ‘low hanging fruit keywords’. Such keywords may not have a high amount of traffic associated with them, but they are far easier to rank for, and conversions are sometimes more likely due to their specific nature.

Onsite Audit

If Eye10’s SEO Audit tool isn’t enough, you’ll also see an onsite audit feature within Industry Checker. Here, Eye10 will focus specifically on the keywords you entered to let you know whether your website is optimized to pick up traffic for these keywords or not.

New to all things SEO? Eye10 makes it easy to see what improvements need to be made by toggling between ‘Not Good’ and ‘Looks Good’. Some of the aspects Eye10 will cover include headings, keywords in URL, keywords in title, keywords in the description, keywords density, underscores in the URL, open graph protocol, image alt attributes, I-frame usage, XML sitemap, check robots, disallow directive test, use of favicon, no-index tag, AMP and webserver.

We recommend checking each aspect and taking the time to understand what it means for your website if Eye10 flags any issues. Reducing such problems will greatly improve your chances of ranking above your competitors.

Website health

Within the onsite audit section of Industry Checker, Eye10 will give you a score out of 100, denoting the overall health of your website. The higher the score, the healthier Eye10 determines your website to be.

You can also toggle between aspects that are on point along with any issues that need your attention.

Industry Checker FAQs

Want to learn more about the importance of our Industry Checker tool? We’ve answered some of the most common questions about SEO in terms of the related industry of your website below.

What is the Industry Checker?

Eye10’s Industry Checker allows you to enter your URL, a list of up to 5 keywords, and your target location. The aim is to see how your website currently fairs compared to your closest competitors specific to your niche.

It’s important to understand your search engine positioning in your industry, as doing so means you can target your content to those most likely to earn you a conversion.

Every industry will have specific search queries most associated with it. Industry Checker is all about understanding these queries, and showing you which websites related to your niche are competing for your traffic.

Think of Industry Checker as a way of understanding your customers. Similar to completing market research when looking to open a business - it will tell you who your competitors are and the types of keywords they are using to rank above you on search engines. You can then use this information to improve your overall SEO strategy

How to use Industry Checker

As noted, all you have to do to use Industry Checker is enter your URL (either the main website URL or a specific page), along with 5 keywords and the target location of your content.

Eye10 makes it simple to find out who your competitors are based on the data you enter, factoring in your industry and your website's current content.

When it comes to using the information Eye10 Industry Checker provides to improve your SEO strategy, we recommend focusing on the ‘Not good’ section, which will be highlighted in red.

You’ll be given a complete list of issues that need to be worked on. Some examples may include a low word count, a lack of image alt tags, and technical issues with the website.

Also, note what Eye10 flags up as ‘looks good’ so that you can keep these aspects as they are on your website and only focus on what needs your attention.

What is meant by industry?

By industry, you need to consider your website's niche or the webpage you enter into Industry Checker. For example, Amazon’s niche is global e-commerce.

Your industry will be related to the products, services or information your website has to offer. You may have a general niche with other related niches that branch off from this

So, if a website was for a mechanic, the main industry would be vehicle mechanics. But, the website may have additional web pages covering aspects such as oil changes, windscreen repairs, yearly services, etc. Therefore, each web page would fall under the same industry of vehicle mechanics but would be tailored slightly differently in terms of its SEO strategy.

How will Industry Checker improve my website’s search engine rankings?

Without a full understanding of their relevancy, keywords alone offer no guarantee of improving your website’s positioning on search engines. Said relevancy comes in the form of factoring the industry you are looking to target to better align your products or services with search engine users.

When your industry and target audience are correctly aligned, your keywords will have a strategy and purpose, as they are relevant to your industry. In turn, your search engine rankings are more likely to climb because users will land on your page and find what they are expecting to see.

Industry Checker doesn’t just show keywords but also the top 5 websites with which you compete with. Unless you know what these websites are, it’s impossible to create a strategy to improve their offering in terms of SEO-friendly content, user experience, backlinks, etc.

Therefore, there are plenty of invaluable aspects of Industry Checker that all work to help you improve your search engine rankings. Understanding how to target your industry specifically is no exception. Our aim is for you to fully understand where your website fits compared with your competitors.

Why do I need to add up to 5 keywords in Industry Checker?

Here at Eye10, we want to provide you with a thorough set of suggestions help you make meaningful changes to your SEO strategy.

Adding 5 keywords instead of 1 helps when using Industry Checkers to hone in on your niche, ensuring the data Eye10 retrieves is relevant to your industry.

Be sure to include keywords relevant to the specific URL you enter, with your industry as a whole, to receive the most accurate suggestions on improving your rankings, along with details of your competitors.

You should feature the keywords you choose on the URL entered to have any chance of ranking for these keywords when entered as search terms by users. Also, look out for related keywords that Industry Checker will suggest

What is search intent?

Search intent considers the reason behind a particular search query users is entering. For example, when typing in ‘glasses’, the user could be referring to spectacles or something to drink out of. So, the website's content needs to not only align the search in terms of products or information, but also considering why the user is researching a particular search query.

If the search query and content a user lands on aren’t aligned, your bounce rate and conversions will suffer because the content displayed simply isn’t relevant to your user’s needs. After all, good SEO brings users to a page, but great SEO ensures that everything the user expects will be found on the page they land on, meaning they are more likely to convert

Furthermore, search intent is also closely related to the information provided with Eye10’s Industry Checker. That’s because Industry Checker is about researching traffic directly related to your niche, discovering related competitors and keyword gaps along the way.

Once your content is truly aligned to your industry and the user's search intent, your SEO strategy will soar to new heights.

How to rank your website on Google

We’ll assume you’ve first taken care of the basics, such as ensuring your website is live, and that Google has indexed your pages. If your website still isn’t ranking on Google or any other search engines for search terms you want your website to rank for, then Eye10 can help in several ways, including using our Industry Checker.

At the heart of any SEO strategy is keywords, which need to be implemented within your headings, body copy, and website’s metadata. When you use any of our tools, including our SEO Audit, Keywords Tool, or Industry Checker, you can see whether your website is ranking for specific terms or not. You’ll also receive suggestions on how to improve your website based on the performance of your competitors.

We’d suggest implementing these suggestions into your website's content and overall functionality, ensuring your website provides a helpful, valuable experience for your users.

How to check my website ranking

Eye10 offers several ways of checking your website’s ranking, making it easier to see if improvements need to be made to your content and, if so, what these improvements are.

Within Industry Checker specifically, it works by entering your URL and up to 5 keywords along with your target location. From there, you can see whether or not your website ranks for these terms. Eye10 will display the position number if your website ranks for any of the terms.

What’s most helpful here is that you can also see the search volume for each search term. If there is a low search volume, then the keywords may not be the most relevant to your niche, meaning some adjustments to your SEO strategy may need to be made, so that your website can capture more traffic

For general website rankings, we recommend using our SEO Audit tool. Your Industry Checker results will also show a summary of our SEO Audit feature.

What are keywords?

Keywords relate to ‘key’ words or phrases that users enter on search engines expecting to find relevant results.

There are many different types of keywords, including short and long-tail. When writing your website’s content with SEO, relevant keywords must be used within the headings, body copy, and metadata.

If you’re unsure what keywords to use on your website, Eye10 makes it simple. We have various tools that show you which keywords your website currently ranks for, along with the keywords your competitors are using that you are currently not using.

When determining which keywords to focus on, you must consider your user’s search intent along with the relevancy of the keyword with your website. This way, users will not only be attracted to your website, but they are more likely to convert when they land on it.

What is a keyword gap?

When using Eye10’s Industry Checker, you’ll see a section called keywords gap. A keyword gap is a list of keywords your content doesn’t contain that Eye10 determines it should due to your competitors using these keywords to rank above you.

Note any relevant keywords that the keywords gap suggests to you. Your website content, including its metadata, will need to include these keywords if you want to improve your website rankings.

What do keywords in title mean?

When viewing your Eye10 Industry Checker results, you’ll notice that under analysis, one of the aspects is called keywords in title.

Essentially, keywords in title look at whether the keywords you want to rank for appear in your page title. If these keywords aren’t in the page title, it reduces the chances that your page will rank for them.

We strongly suggest rewriting your content so that your 5 chosen keywords appear throughout the page titles, body copy, and metadata if they are relevant to what users can find on that page.

Keywords in title are one of the many clues you can give search engines that your content offers relevance for its users who are typing in these same keywords as search engine queries.

Irrelevant titles confuse search engines because the purpose of your page cannot be determined. When that happens, the amount of traffic your website receives will be greatly reduced, so using keywords in the title and throughout your content makes it much easier for search engines to crawl your content.

How to do keyword research

Eye10 is packed full of features that make SEO keyword research a breeze.

Speaking of Industry Checker specifically, the keywords you’ll see are related to the keywords your industry competitors are using. Crucially, we also display the estimated traffic of these keywords so that you can instantly see the types of search volumes these keywords have.

As part of your Eye10 subscription, you’ll also receive access to our Keyword Planner tool. We recommend fully exploring all of the features of your Eye10 subscription so that you’ll never miss a trick where your keywords are concerned.

Export any keywords and implement them into your website body copy, headings, and metadata. Perform regular SEO audits with Eye10 and see if the changes were enough to improve your search engine rankings. If not, your audit report will give you a handy list of pointers to fix that.

Do you still need meta keywords?

Meta keywords refer to using keywords within your metadata. Your metadata will be displayed on search engine results consisting of a clickable title and a brief description of the content underneath.

Meta keywords remain integral to your SEO strategy, as metadata directly appears on search engines where users enter search queries.

Include relevant keywords to your website’s metadata, ensuring every page has a unique meta title and description.

As a general guide, meta titles should be 50-60 characters in length, and meta descriptions should not exceed 160 characters. Many content management systems (i.e., WordPress) have metadata previews so you can ensure your meta title and description read well and are the correct length for search engines.

What is competitor analysis?

Competitor analysis refers to the act of comparing other websites or companies that you are considered to be in competition with.

The reason for undertaking competitor analysis in terms of SEO is to ensure that your website and its content can rank above your competitors. Otherwise, your competitors will rank above your website meaning they are more likely to attract link clicks and ultimately conversions. The lower your website ranks in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), the less likely it is that your website will be visited.

But by understanding your performance compared to your competitors through competitor analysis, you can quickly determine whether your pages rank top or if more work is needed to refine your content.

We recommend keeping an eye on your competitors by regularly conducting competitor research. Luckily with Eye10, you’ll receive a great number of searches that are refreshed daily, so you can always keep on top of where your website and each of its pages are ranking compared with the closest websites to your niche.

How to do SEO competitor analysis

There are several ways to perform SEO competitor analysis with Eye10. As well as checking out our Competitor Research tool, Industry Checker will assist with SEO competitor analysis.

Specifically, Industry Checker looks at SEO competitors who target the same keywords and niche as your website, along with the same audience location.

How to beat SEO competitors

Getting ahead of any SEO competitors Industry Checker identifies is important. Since the websites are within the same industry as you, they likely offer the same products, services, or information. So, these websites are more likely to compete for your web traffic.

Industry Checker will provide information such as keywords gap and similarities for your consideration. You’ll see a different list of suggestions within the onsite audit which summarises the performance of your website and its overall SEO-friendliness. All of which can be used to get ahead of your competitors.

However, in addition to implementing these suggestions, the ultimate way to beat any SEO competitors is to ensure that all aspects of your website offer a quality experience. Keeping users on your website for as long as possible is the key here.

Why is competitor analysis important?

If your website was the only website on the internet competing for a particular search term, then your website would always be displayed first on Google. Unfortunately, with over 1.7 billion currently existing websites, ranking first automatically is rarely a given.

Therefore, every website must have a solid SEO strategy that includes conducting competitor analysis to ensure it ranks highly for the most relevant terms.

With Eye10’s Industry Checker, you can go one step further by viewing your competitors not just in terms of general website traffic but the websites that have a similar niche to your website. All of these are designed to help you refine your SEO strategy.

How important is server location for SEO?

You’ll notice that when using Eye10’s Industry Checker, you’ll be asked to enter the location of your target audience.

Location is important for SEO, as search engines will always try to find websites that are relevant to users based on their location. For example, if you were based in Atlanta, USA, searching for a builder, you wouldn’t expect to be given a search engine result that took you to a builder’s website in Adelaide, Australia.

However, another aspect of location and your SEO is related to server location. If your website is hosted in another country, then expect your website to load very slowly for any users not based in that country. You may also find it difficult to optimize your content for your target location, because search engines determine your website is not based in that country.

If you are having server location issues, we recommend using a CDN (Content Delivery Network). In short, a CDN replicates your websites on servers worldwide, meaning no matter where your visitors originate from, they don’t have to wait an age for your website to load.

Also, take care when choosing a website hosting platform for your website. If the server isn’t based in your target country (i.e., your website is aimed at a UK audience but is hosted in the USA), then your SEO efforts will not reach their potential. This is due to the slow load time of your website caused by the browser having to retrieve your website from a server located thousands of miles away in another country.

The load time will be dramatically reduced if the website is hosted in the same country as the target demographic or has a CDN.

How to boost location SEO

As well as hosting your website in the same country as your intended audience, there are plenty of ways to boost location SEO.

First and foremost, ensure that you feature your location within your website’s body content, headings, and metadata. The relevant aspects to consider are the continent, country, county/state, and city.

For businesses that have physical locations open to the public, be sure to include your full address in the footer of your website, which should be displayed on every page and on your contact page.

Another aspect to look out for is choosing a suitable domain name. It’s sometimes possible to feature a location in a domain name, although at the very least, you should use the right domain name suffix.

Location wise, .com domains can appeal to a global audience. Or you can choose a domain name suffix that’s specific to your country such as .co.uk, .ae, .au, .ch or .de.

We recommend checking out this handy list of domain name suffixes to find which is relevant to your country of origin.
